The Orange County Zoo at Irvine Park // Orange, CA

I started this blog to talk about how it takes bravery to show up to my own life. Well, my life is in Southern California. My spiritual and emotional health greatly depends on how content I am with this on any given day. It's much easier when we take advantage of what we have around us.

Living in Orange County can be overwhelming. It's fast. It's crowded. It's expensive. It's competitive. It's overpopulated. But it also has so much to offer. The beaches. The weather. The creativity. And for us, our family.

If we're not careful, we end up thinking "if we only lived [insert some other place] then we'd have a better life." We toy with the idea of moving some place where we can easily buy a nice house with land and have a "better" life, but we're old enough to know that the grass isn't greener on the other side.
But the grass just might literally be greener at The Orange County Zoo at Irvine Regional Park, which is about 20 minutes away from our house. This was one of those outings that got me focused on all the good in my life. We went with my brother-in-law and his three kiddos just for fun.
It's the perfect zoo to take little kiddos. It has a petting zoo and it isn't very big so you don't feel like you have to spend all day there, even in the midst of meltdowns, to see every last thing. Plus, it's really very affordable for the entire family.

Their main attraction is the bear exhibit but our kids really liked the goats the most. They also have lots of birds, snakes, and mountain lions. They have enough to keep kids in awe.
Once you've experienced the zoo, you can enjoy one of the many other activities Irvine Regional Park has to offer. A railroad, playgrounds, and bike rentals are just a few things you can experience while at IRP. Like always, anything that gets us out of the house and into fresh air is an experience worth having.

We have quite a few more zoos nearby, too. Just another perk of living in Southern California. What does your local zoo have to offer?

  1. How nice to be able to slow down and spend some quality time with family. We love our local zoo! It has a section devoted to African animals and they just added lions last year.
