A Rainy Morning, Saturday School, & Pulp Juice Bar

We've made a commitment for 2019- we're going gazelle intense. For anyone who knows who Dave Ramsey is, you know what I mean. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, it's basically a plan to get out of debt as fast as possible. This means we jump on opportunities to make some "extra" money to bulk up our monthly debt payments. Since Saturday School was offered right after my 3 week Christmas Vacation, I went for it.

I'm a morning person. I like the start of a new day. The crisp air. The coffee. Today was extra special. I had a reason to get up and stand in a city that had been freshly covered with so. much. rain. I probably looked like a crazy person as I took pictures of dew-covered flowers and wet cement to parents who were dropping off their kiddos. I don't care. OK. Maybe a little. But I felt documenting the aftermath of the rain and thunder that startled me out of my sleep was the silver lining to working on a Saturday. That and seeing the crazy things teenagers wear when they go to school on a Saturday. Look at those Crocks! I little bit want to own a pair. For real. But just a little bit.

The other amazing part of the day was that 35 of MY students showed up to spend a Saturday morning with me. I'm not delusional, they really needed to work off detention hours or makeup assignments, but still, 35 students showed up. I'm very proud of them.

After five years, it's weird to walk the same halls I did as a teenager. I never thought I'd be working at my Alma Mater. To top it off, I really never thought I'd be married to my junior high crush. I swore I'd never return to my hometown for more than a visit. Jokes on me- that's a story for another day. For real though, I had a locker in the same hallway my classroom is in. God really does have a great sense of humor.

A few of my students keep insisting I create a YouTube channel. I'm like, "what in the world would I record? Myself wiping other human beings' snot off my clothes?" And they're like, "totally." I've yet to figure teenagers out. I'm not sure a YouTube channel is in my future; however, I do love writing and photography and putting it together in blog form. So here I am, 6 months after I started this blog with high hopes of so many posts about all the people and things and places I love happening this year. I tend to get sidetracked pretty easily. Speaking of which, can we talk about how silly and yummy it was to order from Pulp Juice Bar on a cold, rainy day? But my Acai bowl was so life-giving with all the antioxidants, yummy fruit, and coconut. My solution was to devour more hot coffee to warm me up afterward eating it. I learn a lot from my students. Like that Fortnite is the reason they fall asleep in class and where are the coolest places to eat. I'm looking forward to dining in and trying ALL of their toasts. We basically live on peanut butter and avocado toast. As two separate meals, of course. Plus, look at how cool their juice bags are!

I might be surrounded by teenagers for the majority of my days, but I definitely could use some insight into their lives. At least before my own become big enough to think Crocks are cool and mom is not even close to cool. Ya know what I mean?

I truly enjoyed my 6-day work week but I'm hoping next time a rainy weekend day comes along, I will be able to jump in puddles with my toddlers and enjoy my ninth cup of coffee by the window while they nap. How do you like to spend rainy days?
